D-Day beaches from Paris — Omaha and the American Cemetery with your private chauffeur
Omaha Beach, the American Cemetery at Colleville, Pointe du Hoc, Utah Beach, Arromanches — nearly three hours from Paris, which is why the day starts early and why you want a chauffeur. I collect you at your hotel at dawn; you spend the day on the sites, in silence or with a licensed guide; I bring you back to Paris in the evening.
A day on the D-Day beaches, the way I usually plan it
A typical outline — the sites and the order are adjusted with you, in particular if a relative served in Normandy. It is a long day; the comfort of the car matters, which is why I recommend the V-Class.
An early start is the key: we leave Paris before the traffic and reach the coast around 10 am. Coffee stop on the way if you wish; you can sleep on board.
The cliffs scaled by the Rangers on the morning of 6 June 1944, the craters and bunkers still in place. The most striking place to begin.
The beach itself at Vierville and Saint-Laurent, the memorial on the seafront, and time to walk down to the sand.
A table reserved in Bayeux, or a simpler lunch facing the Channel at Port-en-Bessin.
Colleville-sur-Mer, above Omaha. The 9,388 graves, the memorial and the visitor centre. Allow at least an hour; many guests stay longer.
The remains of the Mulberry artificial harbour at Arromanches, or — further west — Utah Beach and its landing museum, and Sainte-Mère-Église. We choose together according to the time left.
Back at your hotel between 8 and 9 pm, depending on the sites you chose.

D-Day beaches — your questions
How far are the D-Day beaches from Paris?
About 265 km — roughly 2 hours 50 minutes to Omaha Beach by motorway. Round trip, you spend close to six hours on the road, which is why the day starts at 7 am and why I recommend the V-Class for comfort.
Is one day enough to see the D-Day beaches?
Yes, for the essential sites: Pointe du Hoc, Omaha Beach, the Normandy American Cemetery, and either Arromanches or Utah Beach. To add Sainte-Mère-Église, the Bayeux Tapestry, the British or Canadian sectors or the Mont Saint-Michel, I suggest a night in Bayeux through our Bespoke journey service.
Can we have a guide for the sites?
Yes. I am your chauffeur and know the coast well, but for the history itself a licensed D-Day guide makes the difference. I can arrange one to accompany you for the day through our concierge service; tell me when you request your quote.
Is the American Cemetery open every day?
The Normandy American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer is open daily except on 25 December and 1 January. The visitor centre closes earlier in winter. I confirm the opening hours for your date when I write the proposal.
What is the best time of year to visit?
The sites are open all year. Spring and autumn are quiet and moving; summer is busier, with long evenings. Around 6 June the commemorations bring crowds, veterans and ceremonies — a unique atmosphere, but reserve early and expect road closures.
How much does a private day trip to the D-Day beaches cost?
There is no price grid: every proposal is written for your date, your group size and your itinerary. You receive a written, all-inclusive quote within 2 hours — vehicle, chauffeur, fuel, tolls and waiting time included. Guide, museum tickets and lunch are added on request.
Shall I plan your day on the D-Day beaches?
Tell me your date, your group and whether the trip has a personal meaning. I will come back with a written proposal within 2 hours.
